Biochar for Soil

Biochar is a carbon-rich, rigid spongelike material which does not readily breakdown. Instead, it cultivates a thriving community of microbial life, which provides a vital foundation for soil fertility. While biochar contributes inherent water & nutrient retention and aeration, a rich microbial community enhances all aspects of a soil's fertility. 

After adding biochar to soil, you can expect immediate improvements in both drainage and water retention. Nutrients from fertiliser, compost, and other sources will be used more efficiently, and will be less prone to leaching and run-off. Over time, the soil structure will evolve as organic matter builds up and complex microbial systems develop, using biochar particles in the soil as their foundation. As a result, less maintenance is required to keep soil healthy—it's a win-win.

Biochar absorbs contaminants in the same way it absorbs nutrients, but unlike with nutrients it does not again release contaminants. Microplastics, fluoride, heavy metals, small organic compounds which actively harm biological life are sequestered within the biochar structure, safely tucked away from the soil ecosystem. In this way, biochar can be used to remediate contaminated land, as well as purify any soil from the toxins which accumulate in any soil over time.
